Pinkard Awarded Record 14th First Place National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award

San Diego, CA - Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has awarded Pinkard Construction Company its 14th National Excellence in Construction Eagle award at its 20th annual Excellence in Construction awards ceremony. Pinkard’s 14th Eagle was for the demolition and renovation of a former community hospital to create the Brighton Learning and Resource Campus (BLRC). This award makes Pinkard the only CM/GC of its size in the nation to achieve this landmark status.

Pinkard worked with BURKETTDESIGN architects and Owner’s Rep Guidance Corporate Realty Advisors to provide complete CM/GC services. BLRC’s multi-tiered ownership group included Brighton Urban Renewal Authority and Community Reach Center Foundation.

To successfully complete the BLRC project, Pinkard overcame numerous challenges including extremely complicated, selective mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) demolition, a fluctuating budget, and fast-tracked schedule. These challenges were exacerbated by the discovery that MEP scheduled for demolition in the BLRC space also served a neighboring, fully operational family health clinic.

Pinkard’s 14 first-place Eagle awards have been for numerous project types over an 18-year period, beginning in 1992 with the City of Boulder’s Public Library renovation/addition. Project owners include University of Colorado, the Brown Palace, University of Denver, City and County of Denver, CSU, Denver Housing Authority, United Services Automobile Association, Corning Clinical Laboratories, Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and Pool, and DirecTV.

ABC is a national association representing more than 25,000 merit shop construction and constructionrelated firms across the United States. ABC’s National Excellence in Construction awards program is an annual competition that recognizes the best construction projects. Winners are selected from entries submitted from across the nation, and are judged on complexity, unique challenges, schedule, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. A panel of industry experts served as judges and included representatives from higher education, Design-Build Institute of America, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Surety & Fidelity Association of America, and American Institute of Architects.
