Pinkard Construction Co. Breaks Ground on $7.5 million Brent's Place

Aurora, CO - Pinkard Construction Company, the Brent Eley Foundation and JG Johnson Architects have broken ground on the new Brent's Place, a home for recovering cancer patients and their families.

The new Brent's Place will be a 4-story, wood framed residential-type building with 16 apartments adjacent to the new Fitzsimons Medical Center Campus. It will be approximately 28,291 gsf including an on-grade parking garage with storage mezzanine.

The building will be constructed of wood stud framing and OSB sheathing, lightweight concrete floor topping, wood framing throughout, with hard-coat stucco plaster and simulated masonry veneer. Elevator and stair shafts will have 8" C.M.U. bearing walls.

Brent's Place will be heated and cooled using geothermal energy with a 2-pipe heat pump system. The project will be designed to meet the Built-Green Colorado program of the Homebuilders Association of Denver.

Brent's Place, a program of the Brent Eley Foundation, grew from the need for temporary, low-cost, "safe clean" housing for families with children undergoing bone marrow transplantation and other cancer treatments. Brent's Place provides a haven for families with recovering cancer patients for whom even a minor viral infection can be life threatening. This "safe clean" environment limits their exposure to infection during a very critical time of recovery.

The Brent Eley Foundation offers a program that provides for the needs of families from outside the Metro area, who are dealing primarily with the long-term treatment of life threatening cancer at Denver-area hospitals. Their stay at Brent's Place makes their time in Denver a little easier by providing the most basic need of "safe clean" housing and support. The goal for the facility is to alleviate some of the stress associated with these circumstances.
