Pinkard Raises the Standard in Construction Safety
Lakewood, Colorado - Pinkard Construction Company has been awarded Associated Builders and Contractors’ 2009 Most Improved Safety Program and Outstanding Safety Record for General Contractors. The awards, which were presented recently at ABC Rocky Mountain Chapter’s annual Safety Banquet, validate Pinkard’s three-year mission to raise the standard for safety.
Beginning with the hiring of Safety Director Justin Chivers, CSP, ARM in 2006, Pinkard instituted numerous new policies and modifications to ensure worker safety, employee empowerment and active engagement. Under Chivers’ leadership, Pinkard made a 14-point improvement in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP), plus a significant decrease in OSHA recordables and claims-per-manhour over the same three year period. Pinkard’s Most Improved Safety Program award and Outstanding Safety Record for General Contractors award were based upon those improvements.
Pinkard’s prestigious Outstanding Safety Record award was in the General Contractors, 100 – 200 Employee category. Blind judging was conducted by a group of industry peers consisting of insurance companies, construction safety directors, and other industry professionals.
STEP is a program established in 1989 by the ABC’s National Environment Health & Safety (EH&S) Committee offering a structured approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs. For 2009, Pinkard has ABC’s highest rating of STEP Platinum.
