Pinkard Completes Evergreen Country Day School

Lakewood, CO - Pinkard Construction Co., with Jeselnich Architecture, has just completed the $9.1 million first phase of the new Evergreen Country Day school, a K-8 academic, administrative, arts and athletic facility in Evergreen, Colorado.

The first phase is approximately 37,500 sf on two levels. It houses an elementary and middle school academic center, a library, a technology lab, science lab, cafeteria, indoor and outdoor performing arts venues, a great hall for community and cultural events, art studio, music studio, dance studio, administrative office and athletic fields.

Evergreen Country Day School is organized around a Great Hall, a light-filled, two-story space with mezzanine that frames the extraordinary views down-valley t the south. A main circulation corridor running perpendicular to the Great Hall links it with the classrooms to the east.

The structure is steel with cast-in-place concrete slab/foundations. Second level floors are concrete on metal deck. Primary interior finishes include natural and cultured stone, maple hardwoods and trim, painted gypsum board, carpeting and natural and porcelain tile. Exterior materials include cultured stone, plaster, cementitious siding, and standing seam metals.

Evergreen Country Day School's design includes an emphasis on sustainability. All rooms have abundant natural daylight, achieving views of 90% or greater. Aluminum, thermally broken windows have Low E, high performance glazing.

TPO roofing provides durability, sustainability, energy efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements. Roofing materials were selected to minimize the roof's heat island effect.

The Dance Studio, Cafetorium and Kindergarten were designed to achieve Enhanced Acoustical Performance.

The Mechanical system is Packaged DX gas-fired heating and cooling rooftop units with energy efficient CO2 monitoring and controls. Some areas include variable frequency drive to regulate the fan speed / motor horsepower based on heating and cooling loads of the conditioned space. A direct digital control (DDC) system provides precise monitoring and control of the temperature control system.

The school is completely ADA accessible with state-of-the art security and fire alarm systems. Classrooms feature Smart Board Interactive White Board systems.
