Pinkard Construction Co. Breaks Ground on New Fire Station and Training Facility
Northglenn, CO - Pinkard Construction Company has just broken ground on North Metro Fire Rescue District's new $14.5 million Integrated Maintenance & Training Facility and Fire Station #68. The new facility will consist of seven new buildings constructed in the style of a campus/small community to allow for the simulation of real-life fire emergency situations. The facility is one of only three nationwide incorporating the latest, state of the art fire and rescue training simulators.
The 14-acre campus will include a 4-bay fire station, a 4-bay fleet maintenance building, a classroom and office building, a warehouse, and a 3-building Fire Training Center. All buildings are primarily CMU with steel or pre-cast floors, structural slab with caisson or spread footings, stone veneer wainscot with panel siding above and sloped roofs. The living portion of the fire station will be wood framed. Civil work will include complete private utility systems.
The 3-building Fire Training Center will feature a four story "high rise" building, a two story apartment building, and a ranch style home, all designed for fire fighting simulation exercises. The training area will also contain an emergency driving track and simulation areas for vehicle extrication/ confined space, water features for underwater rescue, trench rescue, and fuel spill fires.
The complex will utilize a retention pond to store and recycle fire training water. The new facility will be located near the intersection of I-25 and East 168th Avenue. Construction is scheduled to begin September 2007, with completion expected in the summer of 2008.
Allred & Associates of Broomfield is designing the fire station and fleet maintenance facility. Development Strategies Group (D2SG) Planning & Design of Newport Beach, California will design the classroom/office, warehouse, and training facility.
