Pinkard Construction Achieves Major Safety Milestone

Lakewood, CO - Pinkard Construction Co., specializing in preconstruction and construction services for 49 years, is very pleased to announce the completion of over 1.25 million manhours of construction without a lost-time accident.

The path to this important milestone began in 2006 with a reaffirmed commitment to safety by all Pinkard employees. This commitment allowed Pinkard’s safety statistics to steadily improve, culminating in a total recordable incident rate of 1.2 in 2010. The national average is approximately 5.5.

Vice President of Operations Mark Olesen: “We wanted to create a culture in which new habits were developed. It wasn’t simply about having a new safety director going out and cracking a different whip. We wanted people to think about safety every time they performed a task. I think we’ve achieved a major cultural shift in our company.”

In addition to a sincere employee commitment and numerous operational changes, Pinkard’s Safety Director Justin Chivers was responsible for implementing Pinkard’s new approach to safety.
